| Obverse description | The obverse is dominated by a central vignette of the Argentine coat of arms flanked by two oval maritime vignettes — a sailing vessel to the left and a steamship to the right — rendered in fine intaglio engraving. At lower right, a portrait vignette of a bearded male figure in period dress appears within an ornate frame, with the large bold numeral '5' in a guilloche medallion at lower left. The issuer's title 'BANCO NACIONAL' is printed in large letterpress across the centre, above the denomination inscription 'CINCO PESOS FUERTES' and the promise-to-pay clause, with the place and date line reading 'Buenos Ayres' and manuscript date, and two signature lines for El Inspector and El Directorio. |
