| Obverse description | The obverse displays the Cuban national coat of arms at centre, featuring a shield divided into three sections depicting the royal palm, a rising sun over a mountainous landscape, and a fasces with a Phrygian cap atop; the shield is flanked by a wreath of oak leaves on the left and laurel on the right, tied at the base. The legend REPUBLICA DE CUBA arcs along the upper periphery in raised Latin characters. The denomination 5 PESOS appears in bold lettering along the lower rim, while the metallic specifications 7G and AG 0.999 are inscribed in the left and right fields respectively. |

Twipsy was the official mascot of Expo 2000 in Hanover, Germany — a peculiar animated character designed by the Spanish studio AnimagiC and selected through an international competition in 1996. Cuba's participation in that exposition was enthusiastic enough to warrant a commemorative silver issue, part of a broader Cuban habit throughout the 1990s of producing collector-targeted foreign-themed coins almost entirely for the hard-currency export market. These pieces rarely if ever circulated domestically.
