Obverse description The Cuban national coat of arms occupies the central field, depicting a shield quartered with a golden key between two landmasses in the upper section, a sunrise over the sea, and a royal palm tree flanked by mountains in the lower sections, all surmounted by a Phrygian cap on a staff above a fasces. The shield is flanked by a wreath of oak leaves on the left and olive branches on the right, tied at the base. The circular legend REPUBLICA DE CUBA arcs along the upper periphery, while the denomination 5 PESOS appears at the bottom. The weight designation 12 G. is inscribed to the lower left and the fineness AG 0.999 to the lower right of the wreath.
