Additional information

San Martín died in Boulogne-sur-Mer, France, in August 1850, having spent his final decades in self-imposed European exile after withdrawing from South American politics following his enigmatic meeting with Bolívar in Guayaquil in 1822. Argentina largely ignored him in death until nationalist sentiment made his rehabilitation politically useful. The 150th anniversary of his death in 2000 provided the occasion for this commemorative.

Fr#22 places it within a small family of modern Argentine gold issues with limited collector penetration outside South America.
