| Obverse description | Right-facing bust of José Gervasio Artigas, the national hero of Uruguay, rendered in high relief with fine sculptural detail. The engraver's signature L. BAZOR appears incuse in the left field behind the neck truncation. A circular legend arcs across the upper and lateral portions of the coin reading REPUBLICA ORIENTAL DEL URUGUAY, while the name ARTIGAS flanked by five-pointed stars appears in the lower field beneath the portrait. The composition reflects the classical French medallic tradition characteristic of Bazor's work at the Monnaie de Paris. |
