Venustiano Carranza, the Coahuilan landowner turned revolutionary general, had been dead for nearly four decades when this coin was struck — assassinated at Tlaxcalantongo in 1920 while fleeing his own former allies. The centennial issue is one of several Mexican commemoratives from the late 1950s that quietly recycled the .720 fine silver standard as the government resisted moving fully to base metal for peso-denominated coinage, a transition that would come definitively in 1970.
KM#471 was struck at the Mexico City mint. Single-year issue.
