Obverse description The Mexican national coat of arms is displayed prominently in the center of the field, depicting the eagle perched on a cactus with a serpent in its beak, rendered in fine relief. The national legend ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS arcs along the upper periphery. Below the arms, the coin's weight, silver purity, denomination, mint mark, and date are inscribed in the exergue area, reading PESO 27 7/9 G LEY 0.720 CINCO PESOS Mo 1953. The overall design follows the standard heraldic style employed on Mexican silver coinage of the mid-twentieth century.
