The Banco de la Provincia de Buenos Aires was the oldest provincial bank in Argentina, and by 1881 it had weathered decades of fiscal turbulence that repeatedly forced suspension of convertibility. This note was issued during a period of relative monetary stabilization following Argentina's reorganization under the 1880 federalization of Buenos Aires — the city had just been stripped from provincial control and declared the national capital, leaving the province's bank in a structurally awkward position relative to the new national financial architecture.

American Bank Note Company produced the series from its New York facilities. The ABNC held dominant position in South American bank note contracts throughout this period, and the quality of intaglio work on provincial Argentine issues of the early 1880s is generally high. PS#563 belongs to a catalogued series that is not especially rare in lower grades but thins out considerably in anything approaching original condition.
