| Obverse description | The obverse is divided into three vertical panels, with a central rectangular vignette framed by fine guilloche borders illustrating a pastoral or allegorical scene with figures and landscape. Flanking the central vignette on each side are large numeral medallions bearing the denomination figure '5' within ornate circular frames inscribed CINCO. The issuer inscription BANCO POPULAR and the promise text pagará al portador a la vista appear in bold letterpress across the lower central portion, above the large denomination legend CINCO PESOS. The lower margin carries the imprint MONEDA DE TALLA MAYOR, with spaces designated for EL GERENTE and EL PRESIDENTE DEL CONSEJO signatures. Series and serial number designations appear in the upper corners. |

| Reverse description | The reverse is largely plain with a large diagonal PAGADO (paid) cancellation overprint in pale ink across the entire face. A rectangular printed text block in the upper centre states that the note circulates provisionally as a Banco Nacional note in accordance with Decreto No. 517 of 30 October 1899. Below this block appear multiple manuscript signatures identified by their titles: Ministro del Tesoro and Miembros de la Junta de Emisión, with the date Bogotá, Octubre 30 de 1899 inscribed at the foot. |
