Obverse description Draped bust of female Liberty in left-facing profile, her hair gathered and tied with a ribbon at the nape, with the word LIBERTAD inscribed on her headband. The legend COLOMBIA arcs across the upper field. Nine small six-petaled rosette ornaments are arranged in a semicircle within the lower field, flanking the bust. The design is enclosed by a beaded inner border.

Reverse description At center, the denomination 5 PESOS and date 1864 appear within an open laurel wreath. A caduceus is positioned to the left and right of the wreath. Above the wreath, the mintmark M and weight M. PESO G. 8,064 are inscribed, while the fineness LEI 0,900 appears below the wreath. The entire design is set within a beaded border.
