Additional information

Colombia's 1863 constitution, which took effect the same year this coin was struck, restructured the country as the "United States of Colombia" — a loose confederation of nine sovereign states with a dramatically weakened central government. The federal mint in Bogotá continued striking gold coinage under national authority even as that authority was being actively contested. KM#148 belongs to a short emission window before subsequent monetary reforms adjusted the weight standards to align with international trade coin conventions.
