Ghana's 2007 coinage reform redenominated the cedi at a ratio of 10,000 old cedis to one new Ghana cedi, effectively wiping four zeros from the currency to stabilize public confidence after years of inflation erosion. The pesewa, dormant as a practical unit since the 1970s, was reintroduced with this series.
