Tarancón is a small Castilla-La Mancha municipality that, like hundreds of Spanish towns in the summer of 1936, faced an immediate coin shortage as the Civil War disrupted normal monetary supply chains. Local authorities responded by issuing their own emergency paper — these *vales* or local currency notes, printed by whatever press happened to be nearby. Casa Rabadán was the town's own printer, which is as hyperlocal as wartime emergency finance gets.
The sole security feature is an official municipal stamp, applied by hand. Without it, the note is considered invalid by collectors — and unstamped examples do turn up.
