One of hundreds of emergency local currency issues that proliferated across Republican-held Spain during the Civil War, this note was produced by the workers' collective of García, a small municipality in Valencia province. The CNT-AIT — the anarcho-syndicalist union federation — effectively administered many such towns after the July 1936 uprising, collectivizing agriculture and commerce and issuing their own scrip when the central Republican government's currency became scarce or distrusted at the local level.

These Valencian collectivity notes were printed in enormous variety and tiny quantities, which is precisely why they survive at all — hoarded as curiosities rather than spent into oblivion. AL#2691 is among the more obscure García issues in the Allepuz census.
