Additional information

Ferdinand VII's restoration in 1823 was backed by French Bourbon intervention — the Hundred Thousand Sons of Saint Louis crossed the Pyrenees in April of that year to crush the Liberal constitutional government that had forced the king to govern under the 1812 Constitution. This coin was struck in the immediate wake of that royalist triumph, and the Majorcan issues of this type are distinct from peninsular production, struck under provincial authority with dies that show measurable variation from Madrid output.

Calicó 533 is among the scarcer regional attributions of the type. Survival in collectible condition is limited by the island's modest minting volume that year.
