Claravalls is a hamlet within the municipality of Tàrrega, in the Lleida province of Catalonia — a settlement so small that its wartime paper money stands as one of the more improbable entries in the Spanish Civil War emergency currency corpus. Hundreds of Catalan municipalities issued their own small-denomination notes after the July 1936 collapse of normal coin circulation, but a locality of Claravalls's scale issuing a 5 peseta denomination suggests genuine local commercial pressure, not mere formality.

The note was printed by Imprenta A. Figueres, a Tàrrega press that produced emergency issues for several surrounding communities during the same period.
