Blecua is a village in Huesca province, Aragon — population measured in the hundreds even today. During the first months of the Civil War, local antifascist committees across Republican-held Aragon issued their own paper scrip almost entirely out of necessity: the banking system had collapsed, silver and copper coinage had been hoarded or requisitioned, and commerce at the village level simply stopped without some medium of exchange. These notes were purely local instruments, accepted nowhere outside the issuing municipality.
The Gari Mon reference is incomplete, which is typical for hyper-local Aragonese scrip — many pieces exist in single-digit survivor quantities, and cataloguing has never been fully resolved.
