| Obverse description | Fifth definitive effigy of Queen Elizabeth II facing right, depicting a mature crowned bust wearing the George IV State Diadem with elaborate jewelled band. The portrait, modelled by Jody Clark, is rendered in fine relief with delicate detail on the crown and facial features. The sovereign's legend is arranged around the periphery of the field, with the engraver's initials J.C. incorporated below the bust truncation. |

This piece belongs to the Britannia fractional series reissued in silver from 2013 onward, when the Royal Mint began producing the denominations as legal tender bullion coins rather than purely commemorative pieces. The 5p denomination at 8mm is among the smallest silver coins produced by any major Western mint in modern circulation-legal formats — a designation that matters more technically than practically, as none of these pieces ever saw a cash register.
