Obverse description Central device depicts the Portuguese armillary sphere with the national shield superimposed at center, rendered in high relief against a plain field. The word PROVA (Pattern) appears incuse in small letters above the shield within the sphere. A circular legend reading REPÚBLICA PORTUGUESA runs along the periphery, divided by small ornamental stars at the base. The coin exhibits a beaded border encircling the entire design. The date of issue appears in the lower field beneath the armillary sphere.

Reverse description Central device features the crowned arms of Portuguese Macau, consisting of the Portuguese shield overlaid on a crowned armillary sphere, flanked symmetrically by five-pointed stars on either side. The denomination 5 PATACAS is inscribed in the lower field beneath the central device. The issuer name MACAU appears in the upper field as part of the circular legend. A beaded border frames the entire reverse design, consistent with the obverse treatment.
