| Obverse description | Central field dominated by the elaborate tughra of Sultan Mahmud II rendered in flowing Arabic calligraphy, with the numeral 28 (٢٨) appearing to the right denoting the regnal year. The inscription 'فضه محمود' (Silver Mahmud) is incorporated within the device. The whole is encircled by a wreath of stylized olive or laurel branches, characteristic of Ottoman provincial coinage of this period. The flan is irregular and slightly concave, as typical of hammered silver issues from the Tripoli mint. |
