Obverse description Bare-headed right-facing effigy of King Oscar I of Sweden, rendered in low relief with finely detailed hair swept back in naturalistic curls. The truncation of the bust is plain and unadorned. The peripheral legend curves around the upper and lower fields, reading OSCAR SVERIGES NORR. GÖTH. O. VEND. KONUNG., identifying the monarch as King of Sweden, Norway, the Goths and the Wends. The portrait is executed in a restrained neoclassical style characteristic of mid-nineteenth-century Scandinavian coinage design.

Obverse lettering OSCAR SVERIGES NORR. GÖTH. O. VEND. KONUNG.
