Reverse description A left-facing Eurasian elk (Alces alces) stands prominently in the central field, rendered in clean relief against a plain background. The denomination 5·ØRE appears in the upper field above the animal, while the country name NORGE is inscribed below, flanked by the mint mark of the Royal Norwegian Mint (crossed pick and hammer) and the year of issue. The overall design is simple and heraldic in character, emphasising the elk as a national symbol of Norway.

Additional information

Norway's small bronze denominations from this period were struck with surprising consistency across the Kongsberg facility, but the 5 øre saw a quiet production halt in 1973 as inflation steadily eroded the purchasing power of sub-krone coinage. Within a decade of the series ending, the denomination itself had become functionally obsolete in everyday commerce.
