Obverse description The obverse presents the current Mexican national arms in high relief at center: a golden eagle perched upon a prickly-pear cactus growing from a rocky outcrop, devouring a serpent, all within a wreath of oak and laurel branches tied with a ribbon. Surrounding the central arms in a wide arc are ten smaller historical renditions of the Mexican national coat of arms, each depicting a different heraldic version used throughout the nation's history. The curved legend 'ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS' arcs across the upper-center field between the central device and the surrounding historical emblems. The deeply mirrored proof fields provide strong contrast against the finely frosted devices.
