Issued as part of Israel's long-running wildlife series, this piece belongs to a program the Bank of Israel began in 1992 pairing native fauna with indigenous plant life — in this case the Nubian ibex with the acacia, the shittah tree of biblical reference. The series was designed partly to compete in the international bullion and commemorative market during a period when Israel was actively expanding its numismatic export program.

Relatively modest mintages kept secondary market premiums firm. The 2001 issue is among the harder dates to source in original packaging.
