Obverse description Eight Chinese ideograms arranged in a columnar format across the central field, reading from top to bottom and right to left. The legend reads 喀造 / 光緒 / 銀圓 / 伍錢, denoting the Guangxu Emperor's reign, the silver denomination of five qian, and the Kashgar mint. Characters are rendered in a bold, brush-style calligraphic script and occupy the majority of the coin's face. The coin is bordered by a continuous beaded inner circle running close to the rim.
