| Obverse description | Central device depicts a traditional Maltese earthenware oil lamp (kannestru), rendered in relief and positioned at center of the field. The legend MALTA arcs along the upper periphery, while the date 1982 appears in the lower field. The design is framed by the distinctive 12-notch scalloped border characteristic of the Maltese 5 Mils denomination. The overall composition reflects the work of British engraver Christopher Ironside. |
