Brazil's wartime printing arrangements explain this note's origin. With domestic capacity strained and European alternatives limited by the First World War, the Thesouro Nacional contracted Cartiere Miliani in Fabriano — a papermaking house with centuries of craft history, better known for supplying fine paper than printing finished currency. The resulting notes have a distinctly different hand-feel from contemporary Brazilian issues produced in Britain or the United States.

The "15th Print" designation in the series reflects Brazil's practice of tracking successive print runs as discrete catalogued emissions rather than simply noting a common date — a bureaucratic habit that inadvertently created the granular collecting framework collectors use today.
