| Obverse description | Plain letterpress print in black on off-white paper, with the denomination numeral '5' set within a rectangular border of fine cross-hatched guilloche at each upper corner, flanked by the serial number in manuscript above each. The central text reads 'TREASURY NOTE' in an arc above 'FIVE MARKS' in large bold capitals, followed by a promissory clause, handwritten date and place, and a manuscript countersignature below the 'For and on behalf of the Treasury' legend. The word 'Treasurer.' appears at lower right, with 'Entd.' and a further manuscript entry at lower left. |
