Obverse description Plain letterpress print in black on off-white paper, with the denomination numeral '5' set within a rectangular border of fine cross-hatched guilloche at each upper corner, flanked by the serial number in manuscript above each. The central text reads 'TREASURY NOTE' in an arc above 'FIVE MARKS' in large bold capitals, followed by a promissory clause, handwritten date and place, and a manuscript countersignature below the 'For and on behalf of the Treasury' legend. The word 'Treasurer.' appears at lower right, with 'Entd.' and a further manuscript entry at lower left.
Obverse lettering No. TREASURY NOTE 5 FIVE MARKS Payable in coin at the Treasury, Rabaul. Dated at Rabaul this 14th day of October 1914. For and on behalf of the Treasury. Entd. Treasurer.
Reverse description Plain unprinted off-white paper with the word 'FIVE' printed in bold black capitals at each of the four corners, the remainder of the reverse being entirely blank.
