Obverse description Bare-headed effigy of King Otto of Bavaria facing left, rendered in high relief with finely detailed hair falling in natural locks over the temples and nape. The portrait is unidealized and naturalistic in character, consistent with the engraving style of Alois Börsch. The circular legend reads OTTO KOENIG VON BAYERN in incuse Latin letters, distributed around the upper periphery. The mint mark D appears in small letters at the base of the truncation, identifying the Munich Mint. The field is smooth and unadorned, focusing all visual attention on the royal effigy.
