Obverse description Truncated bare-headed bust of Ludwig III, King of Bavaria, facing left, rendered in high relief with finely detailed hair and beard. The effigy displays a decorative chain collar at the truncation. The circular legend reads LUDWIG III KÖNIG V. BAYERN, arranged around the upper periphery, with a beaded border encircling the entire field.

Reverse description A boldly rendered imperial eagle with wings displayed and head turned to the right, perched atop the imperial German shield, which is set upon decorative scrollwork. To the lower left, the imperial crown is depicted separately, resting on an ornate cushion. The denomination 5 MARK appears prominently to the right of the eagle, the date 1913 is inscribed vertically along the right periphery, and the legend DEUTSCHES REICH arcs across the upper field. A beaded border frames the entire design.
