Holzminden is a small town on the Weser in Lower Saxony, and its 1921 notgeld issue belongs to the vast second wave of German municipal emergency money printed as post-war inflation began outpacing coin production. Gebrüder Jänecke was a well-established Hanover printing house with a long history in quality commercial and securities printing, and their involvement here is consistent with several Lower Saxon municipal commissions from this period.
The DeNG reference places this within a numbered series for the city, suggesting at least two denominations were issued under the same authorization.
