Bingen am Rhein issued this note under the emergency currency provisions that flooded Germany with thousands of locally-produced Notgeld denominations during the final year of the war. The Reichsbank had effectively ceded small-denomination supply to municipalities, and Frankfurt printer J. Maubach & Co. was kept busy filling orders from towns across the Rhine-Main region.
The designer credit to "Tölg" is uncommon enough to be worth noting — most Notgeld of this period went out anonymously. Whether this was a house artist at Maubach or a local Bingen commission is not recorded.
