Additional information

Zangilan is one of the seven districts Azerbaijan recaptured from Armenian control during the 44-day war of autumn 2020, and this coin belongs to a broader commemorative series issued almost immediately after the ceasefire. The speed of issuance was deliberate — Baku moved quickly to assert administrative and symbolic ownership over the recovered territories through currency, architecture, and infrastructure simultaneously.

The district had been under Armenian occupation since 1993, its Azerbaijani population entirely displaced.
