| Obverse description | At center, the national coat of arms of the Republic of Azerbaijan is depicted in high relief: a shield bearing an eight-pointed star with a flame device at its center, flanked at the base by crossed oak and wheat branches. The legend AZƏRBAYCAN RESPUBLİKASI arcs along the upper periphery, while the denomination 5 MANAT appears in the lower exergue. The design is rendered in proof finish with a deeply mirrored field contrasting against the frosted relief elements. |

Lachin is the corridor city connecting Armenia proper to Nagorno-Karabakh, and its status was the single most contested territorial question in the 2020 Nagorno-Karabakh war. Azerbaijan retook surrounding districts that November under the Russian-brokered ceasefire, with Lachin itself remaining temporarily under Russian peacekeeping administration. This coin was struck the following year, a fairly direct assertion of sovereignty over a city that had been outside Azerbaijani control since 1992.
