The Banque de Syrie et du Liban was a French concessionary institution whose mandate over Lebanon's currency survived Syrian independence in 1946 but became increasingly anomalous through the 1950s. Lebanon ultimately absorbed its note-issuing functions into the newly established Banque du Liban in 1964 — the closing year of this series' issue span — making these later dates among the final output of a colonial-era banking arrangement that had outlasted the political order that created it.
Thomas De La Rue's production for this issuer was consistent across the period, with watermark security remaining the primary authentication feature throughout.
