The 1908 series marks the Imperial Ottoman Bank's reissue program following the Young Turk Revolution of July that year — a moment that forced the Bank, which operated under a Franco-British consortium, to rapidly refresh its note stock amid political uncertainty and public banking anxiety across Anatolia and the Levant.
Waterlow & Sons handled a substantial portion of Ottoman paper by this period, their Finsbury work recognizable to specialists by the characteristic watermark placement and paper stock. The P#64 5 Livres is among the more elusive denominations in the series; large-value notes circulated narrowly and returned to bank branches far less reliably than smaller ones.
