Obverse description Central device depicts the Maltese coat of arms, featuring a traditional dgħajsa (Maltese water taxi) navigating choppy seas beneath a radiant sun, all enclosed within a circular shield. The design is rendered in low relief against a mirror-polished field. The circular legend reads REPUBBLIKA TA' MALTA along the upper periphery, with the date 1984 positioned at the base, both separated by raised dot stops.
