Additional information

Nicolò Isouard was born in Malta in 1773 but built his entire career in Paris, where his opéras comiques dominated the Opéra-Comique stage in the early nineteenth century — at his peak, he was more performed in France than any composer except Méhul. He died in 1818, largely forgotten within a generation as Rossini swept European taste in a different direction entirely.

This issue was part of Malta's long-running commemorative silver program tied to Maltese cultural figures, produced in the final year before Malta's currency was locked to the euro conversion path.
