| Obverse description | The Maltese national coat of arms occupies the central field, depicting a quartered shield bearing a cross and vertical lines, encircled by a wreath of olive branches. Above the shield rests a mural crown with five visible battlements, rendered in fine relief. A scroll or ribbon device appears at the base of the arms. The legend MALTA arcs along the upper periphery, and the date 2007 is inscribed in large numerals along the lower rim. |

| Reverse description | A full-length standing figure of Jean de la Valette, Grand Master of the Knights of Malta, dominates the central field. He is depicted in period costume, holding a helmet in his left hand and extending his right hand outward, evoking his legendary role as defender of Malta during the Great Siege of 1565. An outline map of Malta is shown to the left of the figure, and a small mint mark appears to the lower right. The legend JEAN DE LA VALETTE arcs along the upper left periphery, flanked by the birth and death years 1494 and 1568 on the right. The denomination Lm5 is inscribed in the left field. |
