Additional information

Enrico Mizzi spent much of the early twentieth century fighting British colonial authority in Malta — twice court-martialled, once sentenced to deportation — before eventually becoming Prime Minister in 1950, a position he held only briefly before his death that same year. This commemorative was issued decades after his rehabilitation from colonial-era villain to national hero, a reframing that says as much about Maltese political memory as it does about the man.

KM#117 shares its specification with the Royal Mint's standard 28.28g crown blank, used across dozens of Commonwealth commemorative issues of the period.
