Obverse description A classical male statue vignette occupies the left side against a fine guilloche underprint in blue. At centre, a decorative scroll cartouche carries the Maltese legal tender inscription and the denomination 'ĦAMES LIRI' in ornate lettering, with a small outline map of Malta below. The Maltese coat of arms with two armoured knights supporting a shield, dated 1968, and the motto 'FIDUCIA FORTIS' appears at right; the denomination '£M5' is shown in the lower corners, with the issuer's name 'BANK ĊENTRALI TA' MALTA' in a guilloche band across the top.

Reverse description A panoramic harbour scene spans the full width of the note. At left, a yacht marina with moored sailing vessels is set against a detailed intaglio skyline; at centre-right, a colourful traditional Maltese luzzu fishing boat is rendered in full polychrome, dry-docked in the foreground, with additional luzzus on the water before the Marsaxlokk waterfront. The inscription 'YACHT MARINA' appears at lower left and 'MARSAXLOKK' at lower right, with 'FIVE POUNDS' in bold serif lettering at the lower left corner.
