| Additional information |
Italian Somaliland operated as a separate colonial monetary jurisdiction from metropolitan Italy, and this 5 Lire was struck specifically for the territory rather than repurposed from domestic stock. The colony's coinage was administered through the Regia Zecca in Rome but intentionally differentiated to prevent currency arbitrage between the colony and the mainland.
Mintages for the entire Somaliland series were small, and surviving circulated examples are genuinely scarce — the colonial population was limited, formal cash transactions rare, and attrition through loss and melt was high.
