Additional information

San Marino issued a themed annual coin program throughout the 1980s and 1990s, rotating subjects each year across its full lire denomination set. The 1990 series carried a social themes program, with individual denominations assigned distinct aspects of community life. By this point in the series, San Marino's collector-targeted lire issues were effectively never entering circulation — the republic's monetary arrangement with Italy meant Italian lire did the actual transactional work.
