Obverse description Bare-headed effigy of Joachim Murat facing right, with voluminous curly hair rendered in fine neoclassical style. The portrait is boldly modeled in high relief, truncated at the neck. The encircling legend reads GIOACCHINO NAPOLEONE, divided on either side of the bust, with the date 1813 placed in the lower exergual area. The whole is framed by a beaded inner border.

Reverse description The crowned royal arms of the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies displayed on an elaborate quartered shield, set upon an ermine-lined mantle and flanked by two supporters. The shield is surmounted by a royal crown and draped with the heraldic mantle. The mint mark N appears at the base of the shield. The circular legend REGNO DELLE DUE SICILIE runs along the upper periphery, with the denomination 5. LIRE inscribed in the lower field, all within a beaded border.
