Obverse description The Lion of Saint Mark, the emblematic winged lion of Venice, is depicted in profile facing left at center, surmounted by a circular halo, its fore-paw resting upon an open book bearing the evangelical inscription 'PAX TIBI MARCE EVANGELISTA MEUS' inscribed across the pages. The lion's wings are spread prominently above its body, and its tail curls upward to the right. The entire central device is set within a raised inner circle, with the outer legend 'REPUBBLICA VENETA' arching along the upper periphery and the commemorative date '22 MARZO 1848' running along the lower periphery, flanked by small six-pointed stars. The engraver's signature 'A. FABRIS F.' appears in small letters in the exergue below the lion. A beaded border frames the entire obverse.
