Reverse description A crowned heraldic eagle displayed with wings spread, facing left, bearing on its breast the shield of the House of Savoy charged with a cross. Two crossed rifles with bayonets and a sword are depicted behind the eagle, forming a martial trophy composition. The denomination L 5 appears in the lower left field and the Arabic equivalent ريال to the lower right, flanking the eagle's lower body. The legend COLONIA ERITREA arcs around the upper periphery, with the Ge'ez inscription ሰ ብር flanking a decorative device, and TALLERO inscribed along the lower margin. The entire design is enclosed within a beaded border.
