Pharnavaz I is credited in Georgian historical tradition as the founder of the Kartvelian kingdom and the first to unify the region under a single dynastic line, with his reign dated approximately to the early third century BC. The primary source, the medieval chronicle Kartlis Tskhovreba, attributes to him the creation of the Georgian script itself — a claim modern scholars treat with considerable skepticism, placing the script's actual development several centuries later.
