Additional information

Georgia lays credible claim to being the oldest continuous wine-producing region on earth, with archaeological evidence from the Caucasus pushing cultivation back some 8,000 years. The country's signature method — fermenting whole grape clusters in buried clay vessels called qvevri — survived Soviet collectivization largely intact, and in 2013 UNESCO inscribed the tradition on its Intangible Cultural Heritage list. This coin was issued four years after that recognition.
