| Obverse description | At center, a marten is depicted in profile running to the right, with the numeral '5' inscribed upright on the animal's elongated body and the denomination 'KUNA' below it. The legend 'REPUBLIKA HRVATSKA' (Republic of Croatia) arcs along the upper periphery. At the lower edge, the coat of arms of the Republic of Croatia is centrally placed, flanked on the right by a stylized flowering laurel branch and on the left by an oak sprig bearing acorns. The design is executed in a clean, modern relief style characteristic of late 20th-century Croatian coinage. |

Croatia reintroduced the kuna as its currency in May 1994, three years after declaring independence from Yugoslavia — the name deliberately revived from the medieval Slavic unit of account based on marten pelts. This denomination ran continuously until January 2023, when Croatia became the twentieth member of the eurozone and retired the kuna after less than three decades of circulation.
The Latin-text designation distinguishes this type from its Croatian-text counterpart, a bilingual approach that generated more collector interest than monetary necessity.
