Obverse description Unadorned right-facing bust of King Harald V occupying the central field, rendered in high relief with finely detailed hair. The circular legend reads HARALD V · NORGES KONGE along the upper periphery, with the engraver's initials IAR (Ingrid Austlid Rise) incuse below the truncation. The Royal Norwegian Mint's crossed hammers mintmark appears at the bottom of the field.

Reverse description The Norwegian Royal coat of arms occupies the central field, depicting the crowned lion rampant sinister bearing a St. Olav's axe on a shield surmounted by a royal crown with cross finial. The date is divided either side of the shield, with the denomination expressed as 5 KRONER in bold letters along the lower periphery, engraved by Øivind Hansen.
