Additional information

Harald V ascended to the Norwegian throne in January 1991 following the death of Olav V, making him the first Norwegian king in nearly six centuries whose mother tongue was Norwegian from birth — Olav and Haakon VII had both been raised speaking Danish and English respectively. This 5 Krone type was introduced partway through his reign as part of a broader recoinage that rationalized the circulating series, with production running across Den Kongelige Mynt in Kongsberg until that facility ceased coin production in 2017 and manufacturing shifted abroad.
